CDBG Senior Program

The CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) Program is funding provided from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through Oakland County to the City in order to keep communities sound, attractive and economically viable.Sylvan Lake participates in the program and receives a formula share of funds to undertake eligible activities that best meet community needs.

Sylvan Lake’s funds will be used to assist seniors, within the City, over 62 years of age who qualify for assistance with yard services for this season. The City will contract with a vendor to provide the services.  (Services will conform to Oakland County guidelines and include lawn service, general spring/fall cleanup, dangerous tree removal/ trimming). Our CDBG Coordinator will post a notice (Approximately in March-April) when the city is accepting applications. The City of Sylvan Lake is an equal opportunity employer.

To qualify for assistance, you must be a Sylvan Lake resident, 62 years old, and with an income less than $31,350 for one per household or $35,800 for a two-person household. You will need to complete the application, provide identification that indicates age along with your 2022 Income tax return.

The services provided may include lawn cuts and fall yard clean up. The application must be submitted to City Hall in order to be considered. All documents must be turned in together by April 15th, 2023.

Notice of Public Hearing – Community Development Block Grant Funds

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Sylvan Lake City Council will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Center, 2456 Pontiac Drive, for the purpose of hearing public comments on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program Year 2023 application in the approximate amount of $7,000 to fund eligible projects.  The maximum income threshold for this Block Grant cycle will be $28,000 for a one-person household and $32,000 for a two-person household.  All interested citizens are requested to attend the Hearing. Comments will also be received in writing or in person at City Hall, 1820 Inverness St. until 4:00 p.m. December 14, 2022.  Arrangements to reasonably accommodate special needs, including handicap accessibility or interpreter, will be made upon receiving 72-hour advance notice.
